About the Artwork
In The Hobbit, dragon Smaug burned the dwarves’ Dwarf-kingdom of Erebor. There was also a prophecy saying that the return of the ravens, “bird of old”, would mean the reign of the beast would end. More than one hundred years later, the dwarves did not reclaim their home town without causing another burn. In a way, I think he burnt away what was corrupted.
The contemplation of burning away what is rotten and no longer serve is what inspired this painting. This is often the first and most difficult step of healing and personal growth. Yet we often find ourselves returning to this stage again and again. Don’t mistake it as going around in circles, because we are ascending in spirals.
The gold in this piece represents the incorruptible essence, what cannot be destroyed, what is always true.
This piece is for you who no longer fear the power of the soul fire, but walks through it with confidence.
